"'penis' he said on twitter"
This week has been chill. Hope everyone is staying up, staying lit, staying hydrated. All of that. Please go get some sun, cause some of y'all looking a lil' pale. For the melanin deficient folks, Coppertone is our choice of SPF 100.
Also, happy fathers day to all the dads out there. We're both still waiting for zaddy day to be a recognized holiday. But any who, don't forget to tap in with your loved ones today, and definitely tap out of that new Saweetie.
Coon chip activated!
So there was some drama this week involving Noname and J. Cole.
Noname is an artist and outspoken activist out of Chicago that recently "retired" from making music to focus on her bookclub.
In the ever so present spirit of calling people out for perceived inaction, here's what she recently had to say about some of y'all's faves.
Weeks later, in comes our brother Jermaine with an entire track that not so subtlety responds to Noname's tweet and her approach to activism in general.
Let's dig into this track a bit, because there is a lot going on.
Niggas be thinkin' I'm deep, intelligent, fooled by my college degree
My IQ is average, there's a young lady out there, she way smarter than me
Really struggling as to why he would say this. Cole's whole thing is that he's a conscious rapper, and also the reason that he's the subject of so many hotep memes. So this track is bringing weird energy from the jump.
Instead of conveying you holier, come help get us up to speed...
I would say it's more effective to treat people like children
This is a pitiful cry for help. Jermaine is seemingly asking Noname to be his "woke" teacher while accommodating his ego. His actions are part of a bigger issue of Black men putting the expectation of supporting, teaching, and guiding on Black women. Btw, other groups are guilty of this same shit.
Black women are oppressed by both gender/sexism and racism yet they still show up for the movement while black men are often less enthusiastic to support us.
- Madison Williams, friend of Subtweet
This man really called out the tone of her tweet lmao.
So this man decided it was smart to speak again...
Zack Fox with the key takeaway here.
He focused on the wrong pussy. Noname's taught 9th grade english and wrote a thesis on colonialism.
Holding someone accountable for their actions isn't cancelling them, but some of y'all ain't ready for that conversation.
Noname penned a beautifully written response to Cole with a track produced by Madlib. Listen to it now if you haven't already.
Yesterday, Noname reflected on the track and it's impact on the movement.
Because at the end of the day we can't have any distractions when we still need to arrest the cops that killed Breonna Taylor.
Beethoven was Black?
This week we discovered a new black life. It's a welcomed break from the past few weeks.
"Check my twitter page for something holier than black death"
-Noname
Don't worry we did for you.
Remember:
Don't leave me
So much black joy emanating from the timeline this week. We just had to share.
Voice Tweets
Twitter released voice tweets which is a natural evolution for the platform and allows for new levels of expression.
Mario preachin'
The timeline was quick to find the real use case. Voicemails and DM slides.
Some were mad they didn't get the feature yet while others were already checked out
We understand that this is not the most inclusive feature for the deaf community. Apologies to anyone who couldn't enjoy this content to the fullest. Twitter is working on making the feature more inclusive.
Yes, we know we posted this late.
Stay safe and thanks for reading - Andrés and Regynald.
DM us funny tweets.
