"I'm just trying to relax"
So we just had a random long weekend. Idk why, but it was great. People were just blowing shit up outside, so much so that the LA smog is back! Andrés is relaxing with some pupusas in hand. Catching vibes during his last few days in LA before returning to the bay. Mila is in her cottage just vibing. Catch her sitting in her private garden giving us affluent energy. Regy is trying to find some chill away from his twitter notifications. Luckily, Regy's roommate is out of town, so he's focusing on those hinge notifications now.
Also, can y'all chill on renting out these nice airbnb's? Specifically, the ones with pools cuz we trying to go somewhere soon. We've been putting in that work during quarantine and need to show off these fits.
"Sooo Jada... did July about August"
Last week, R&B rapper and known Smith family friend, August Alsina sat down with Angela Yee and had a few things to say about his relationship to Jada Pinket-Smith.
August alleged that he had a years long romantic relationship with Jada that ended in heartbreak. In his own words,
I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it — so much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.
Miss Jada did a number on August.
The Smiths have been keeping it real with us ever since Jada took a seat for her show, the Red Table Talk. Earlier this year, Will came on her show and the couple alluded to being in an open relationship. Here's what we know about Will & Jada: They've been together for over two decades and they've made it clear that they are life partners who don't explicitly adhere to the norms of a typical marriage.
Whatever goes on between these two (or 3?) is none of our business, but the timeline still wants to know. Is this an open relationship? August seems to present very real feelings for Jada, even going so far as to write a song about her:
Since then, the timeline erupted.
Even if the speculation on their relationship status is true, we don't need to know the details and should just mind our business.
Jada, what really happened sis?
We'll be reserving our seats at the red table.
Lost Brothers
At this point in time where everybody feels the need to voice an opinion, we must document & highlight the collection of Black men who seemingly have no cultural awareness. Amidst an ever growing pandemic & a revolutionary uprising, these mostly wealthy individuals continue to disappoint the community.
Terry Crews
This man has been actively spewing coonish, borderline pro-white nonsense from his personal account for a minute now. We can't tell if he forgot to switch away from his burner but he really tweeted these out with his whole chest.
We already knew the community was gonna come for Latrell Spencer's ass.
Virgil Abloh
Earlier this week it was announced that Virgil Abloh, artistic director of Louis Vuitton's menswear, would be designing the album artwork for Pop Smoke's posthumous album, Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon. Unfortunately, this is the best he could come up with.
He really opened up photoshop just to mess around with some clip art for 5 minutes.
Not only did Virgil's design not hold up, but it was later revealed that he stole part of his cover art concept from another artist associated with Pop Smoke.
Well that was expected. He's out here stealing from up and coming Black artists all the time.
Hold up. This man is literally making an entire career out of copy and paste.
Bullying works!
DJ Whackademiks
Hip-Hop "commentator" (think Charlemagne's younger brother, but somehow more annoying), DJ Akademiks was once again acting a fool on the timeline. This time beefing with rapper Freddie Gibbs. The whole squabble was one sided and we got some great content out of it.
During a twitch rant about Gibbs, celebrity jeweler Ben Baller and others, he decided to speak ill on John Legend and Chrissy Teigen. That didn't bode well for him, as its been reported that he wont be having Complex on that W-2 anymore.
Rocky Road to Equality
It's been a long time coming for some changes in corporate "amerikkka", but not everyone is heading toward the light. We've known that the only real justice is to support Black-owned businesses but the negative depictions and commodification of stereotypical black representation in television and brand marketing are far too pervasive for us to ignore.
We love to see folks acknowledge that they need to do better to serve the Black community, but why did it take until 2020, the year of realizing, for these changes to take effect? Despite all efforts to erase the mistake, these companies seem to be skipping over the problematic structures that allowed these mistakes to happen in the first place.
Even voice actors are hopping on the trend.
As we're all aware, these companies have been propping up racist content for decades. Now they're panicking.
Here's a preview on what we might be seeing next.
Anywho chile, stony the road we trod.
Cultural Reset
Celebrating 4th of July in this economy? We have to laugh.
We haven't slid into skates in years, but there is a whole Black skate movement that we can't miss. The skate shops are booked and busy, but we're still going to try and cop our pair.
Black joy was all over the timeline this week.
Stay safe and thanks for reading - Andrés, Mila, and Regynald.
